Akron Global Village Festival

The Akron Global Village Festival was held yesterday at Lock 3. RPCVs from various decades came to share Peace Corps stories with members of the Akron community. Pictured above from left to right are Jimmy Filon, Romania (2000's); Phil Leber, India (1960's); Tony Paparella, Sierra Leone (1980's); Annabel Khouri, Kenya (1990's). Why RPCVs Engage with Peace Corps

If you served in Peace Corps, you are well aware of the 3rd goal. But, did you know that you can get cool swag from Peace Corps by registering your 3rd goal activities/presentations? If you register two weeks in advance of your event, you'll receive a packet of materials, including stickers, a world map, a Peace Corps bag, and possibly even a calendar! You could share your experience with…

NORVA Ethnic Dinner - Taste of India Review

Indian fare may not be that exotic to many RPCVs who are used to sampling foods of unknown origin. The bigger surprise was the turnout: 11 people showed up for the dinner in Cuyahoga Falls illustrating that there are indeed RPCVs outside of Cleveland eager for connection. In fact, the group informally agreed upon a future dinner at a local Nepali restaurant (details to come soon and worth the trek from what I hear).

The food was definitely tasty, albeit maybe a tad hot for some of…

Hello Annabel -- I just did a google search for RPCV organizations in Ohio and came across NORVA. I live in Clev. Heights and was in the PC from 94-97 in the Dominican Republic. I have lived in Ohio for approx. 5 years.

Who is "in charge" of NORVA -- I see you are the secretary, are there other board members? I'm interested to see what types of activities/functions NORVA is involved with.

Also, my mother-in-law is the manager at Ten Thousand Villages www.tenthousandvillages.com (a nonprofit fair trade retailer/craft store that returns profits to international artisans). She is interested in discussing potential opportunities (events, sharing experiences, etc.) for both Ten Thousand Villages and RPCVs. Is there someone you can refer me to for her to discuss this with, or would you be willing to discuss this w/ her. My e-mail address is: jaymokotoff@hotmail.com and cell phone is 216-272-2275, if you wish to contact me. Thank you, Jay
