But I have to say that it’s been a long time since I ate something and my brain couldn’t find anything to connect it to. At the Nipa Hut, the only sit-down Filipino restaurant in northeast Ohio, each mouthful was totally new. Yes, please. Throw in a healthy serving of charming advice from the proprietor and you’ve got yourself a NORVA Ethnic Dinner. Guided by recently returned RPCV from the Philippines, Susan Brooks, we tried a little of everything.
If you'd like to figure out what bittermelon is to you, drop by The Nipa Hut at W. 130th and Pearl on Saturday afternoons, when the buffet serves from 11am - 3pm.

One of the most rewarding parts of Service Saturday is finding a way to help someone get access to services they need. I'm so proud of NORVA members who have taken the time to really listen to the folks who come for help and find a way to provide it. This past week, a few of us helped new beneficiaries apply for library cards and get email addresses. This past week, a few of us helped new beneficiaries apply for library cards and get email addresses. Demonstrating that they are actively seeking employment is one of the conditions of receiving the government assistance needed to help them get on their feet here.

Peace Corps Volunteer Catherine Campbell-Morrison of Cleveland is working with rural mothers in Peru to improve their kitchen stoves to minimize the amount of indoor smoke they produce. Additionally, the mothers are being taught better nutrition and cooking techniques. A portion of the funds for the project will be raised through the Peace Corps Partnership Program (PCPP), a program that helps support Peace Corps volunteer community projects worldwide.
